The students of the Crestwood cheerleading team spend their time rooting for various sports at the school. The head coach is Leigh Ann Dougherty and the captains include seniors Megan Hudock, Noah Dean, Alexandria Smolenak, and junior Victoria Smolenak. Though they are mainly associated with football games, the cheerleading team also supports both boys and girls basketball, and sometimes wrestling matches. The team also competes in local competitions. They went to a competition in New Jersey and qualified for the national competition in Disney, which is in February. Victoria Smolenak proudly stated, “It’s a huge accomplishment for the cheer team to qualify for the second year in a row. Last year was our first year we tried to go to Florida and we qualified on our first try.” Alexandria Smolenak added, “We are working very hard to prepare for nationals in Disney.” The captains care about their team a lot and it is obvious that they are extremely dedicated. Megan Hudock praised the coaches along with saying, “Our team is very hard working, fun, and we all have a very close bond.” Noah Dean agreed, saying “I consider them my second family.” She also stated, “We work really hard and are busy up to six days a week during the winter.” The Crestwood Comets certainly have a good team to cheer them on.
